Scout Troop Volunteers Needed
If you know of a scout who might like to conduct an Eagle Scout project out at Cedar Ridge Preserve, or a Girl/Boy Scout troop who would like to conduct a group project, please have them contact Randy Schoen (rschoen@audubon.org).

Our current project wish list includes:

• New picnic tables and construction of a new picnic area
• Refurbishment of the amphitheater
• Trail repair and construction
• Construction of a boardwalk for Cattail Pond
• Clearing Phragmites from Cattail Pond
• Building and installing nest boxes
• Constructing a bird blind for preserve visitors
• Fence repair and construction
• Roof repair for the storage barn

Eagle Scouts Build New Observation Tower on Cattail Pond at CRP
The latest Eagle Scout project at the preserve has been completed, and pictures are available online at http://www.flickr.com/photos/newelld/sets/604021/. For his project, David Newell and his group built a new observation tower on Cattail Pond trail to replace the one we had to take down due to safety concerns.

This was an ambitious project, but was completed successfully in no small part due to David having built the entire tower in his backyard first, then dismantling it and reconstructing it at Cedar Ridge Preserve. The tower was approved by two architects prior to building, and is quite solidly built.

Please feel free to come out and visit the tower sometime on the next sunny day--it would make a great place to set up a tripod and watch for birds.

Conservation in Action!
Habitat Restoration & Trail Maintenance at Cedar Ridge Preserve happens the 3rd Saturday of every month throughout the year, rain or shine.  Volunteers remove non-native plants, restore trails, and work in the butterfly garden.  Repairing trails reduces erosion trouble spots and removing non-native plants clears crowded trail edges. Bring a picnic lunch, water, pruning shears, a shovel, and work gloves. Questions? Contact volunteers@audubondallas.org
