Default Do we need this forum?

When I set up the different forums on this page, I thought that having a separate forum for late-breaking news would make it easier to see if there was any late-breaking news. A short time ago, though, Connie posted the sort of thing I'd think of as being late-breaking news on the Chat forum -- a note about an extra presentation on recent area rarities that she'll be giving before the meeting tonight. Connie may have done this out of habit, since we've never had a separate forum for late-breaking news before.

So, my question to y'all is, would you prefer to have such news in this forum, or would you just as soon have it in the Chat forum? If most people would rather have it in the Chat forum, I'll delete this forum.

(I'm afraid you will have to register in order to reply or vote in the poll.)

Thanks,
Betsy

If you can change the name of this one to Rare Bird Alert, I'd keep it. Otherwise, I would do away with the topic. While this forum was gone, I used the Fort Worth Forum. They have a Bird Chat and a Rare Bird Alert. It was nice having the distinction for the Snow Bunting, Little Gull, Costa's Hummingbird, etc. You could go right to that forum and find directions and information. There was no searching through a regular bird chat to find information.

I feel Perry has a very good idea.

Betsy,
Do we have "stickies" (stickys?) for Bird Chat? If so, that might do it.

For instance, if we had frozen precipitation on a meeting night or at the time of a field trip and were cancelling the event, being able to put up a post as a sticky might take care of it. Anybody checking in would see the post on top.

I do like the idea of having a Rare Bird forum.

Thanks for reminding me of the idea of a rare bird forum, Perry! I had thought of having one at one point, but forgot about it when I was creating forums.

Yup, Connie, we do have stickies, and you, as Moderator, have the ability to make a post sticky, even if you didn't write it.

OK, then the only remaining question is, does the rare bird forum need to be juried? Does it need someone to verify that birds reported in it are indeed rare for the area? And if it does, do we have a volunteer for that?
