Default Eagle Flight Photos from Oct. 4 AM at White Rock

Watched and photographed in great fascination as the Bald Eagle flew empty-handed along the west shoreline of White Rock Lake, then across the lake, [and must have] picked up what looks like a big catfish, landed in outer Sunset Bay (beyond the pelicans) and ate its meal, keeping a sharp look-out for something bigger to come along and take it away.

Great narrative JR. The most important thing you have documented is that the bird is actively feeding at the lake. In the past, everyone thought the eagles were just passing through. Documenting the feeding is a huge leap in why the bird is there hanging out.

I saw what might be the same Bald Eagle on Sunday morning 7:15am near the mouth of White Rock Creek and the Trinity.

Bald Eagle was spotted yesterday Monday 10/20/14 3:30PM by a jogger at the corner of East Lawther and Garland Road perched over the water fountain in the limbs of the larger Elm there. The photos, taken with an iPhone that I have seen are the best and clearest photos yet of a Bald Eagle in the slowly yellowing leaves of the tree.

The bird was using the open limbs there as a perch and diving on prey in the bay there. Since the bird was directly over the bike trail, people were right underneath it.

I still have not seen this Bald Eagle yet.

It is quite possible this individual is passing through or may even stay for the winter at White Rock. We have yet to get many of the wintering eagles in from the north as mild temperatures have kept the duck/geese numbers in check here in Texas. I think the next good front will bring quite a few through.

Here is the eagle in the elm on the limb directly above the water fountain near the intersection of East Lawther and Garland Road.
