The flagship Half-Price Books store on NW HWY east of I-75 (Dallas) had a copy of Warren Pulich's out-of-print* book The Birds of North Central Texas yesterday in its bird section, in what appeared to be pristine condition for around $20, in case anyone has been wanting one.
For those unfamiliar with this book, it was the point of departure for the NC Texas checklists Jim Peterson has on his website, www.nctexasbirds.com (http://www.nctexasbirds.com) and, while becoming somewhat dated, includes typical as well as extreme arrival and departure dates for the species that put in an appearance in the counties of NC Texas, nesting status and often other useful information about such things as weather influences on location and abundance of various species.
* Or maybe it's back in print? TAMU appears to be showing it for sale at about $30: http://www.tamu.edu/upress/BOOKS/lite/pulich.htm
