Message from Dianne Thomas who is taking RSVPs for this field trip on Saturday, 2/16/08:

There's supposed to be major "weather" starting Friday through Sunday. If it is raining or snowing, the trip will NOT happen. However, if there is no precip and it's just really cold, the trip WILL take place. The trip leader, Rel Lipscomb, says he does not care if it's cold but the site is not conducive to rain/muddy terrain.

If you have any doubts on Saturday morning, feel free to call me -- 214-824-1978. BUT.....I'll be leaving the house at 7:30 a.m. to drive to Ennis. My cell is 214-906-5569.

Rel is hoping to give us an alternate date, but is checking on a couple things with his family.

Dianne

Last Saturday I-75 going south was totally blocked off at the exit to Woodall Rogers and everyone had to take that exit. Some folks didn't know how to get to I-45 after that.

If that happens again tomorrow (in case it was construction that caused it), here's what to do:

After getting onto Woodall Rogers, take the Pearl Street exit (about the first one you get to) or the next one if you miss that one. Do a U-ee -- that is, cross over the bridge and get on the Woodall Rogers service road going back towards I-75. Get back onto Woodall Rogers as soon as you can find an entrance ramp (which will be after the Pearl St. bridge) and take the (right side of road) exit to I-45, which should come up almost immediately.

This will add about five minutes to your trip.

I just talked to Dianne. Rel called her a little while ago and said that the rain, thunder and lightning are just starting in Ennis (even though they're not really visible on the Weather Channel's radar). What's more, it's so foggy that we wouldn't be able to see anything anyway.

I myself noticed that a patch of heavy rain passed over Lake Bardwell last night, so the ground would probably still be soggy and muddy from that.

So, it's off. We get to sleep in this morning. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
