I'll post a much more detailed report tomorrow with a complete species list, but the trip to Skagit Valley, Washington with Paradise Birding was a blast! I personally got 18 life list species, bringing my total (for North American Birds only) to 443.

The total species list for the whole group (including a few "guide only" observations) was around 107-109. I have to review my notes for a final number.

Highlights included Harlequin Duck, Northern Saw-whet Owl, Brandt's and Pelagic Cormorants, Rhinoceros Auklet, Trumpeter and Tundra Swans, Black-capped Chickadees eating out of my hands, Red-necked Grebe, Red-throated Loon and Pacfic Loon, Rough-legged Hawk, 100s if not 1000s of Bald Eagles, and many more.

By the way, in case you were wondering about reports you may have heard about really crazy weather in the state of Washington over the last week: we were largely unaffected by it due to the shelter of the "rain shield" provided by Vancouver Island, although we did encounter extraordinarily strong winds and huge crashing waves on one day at a place called Rosario Head. Sure am glad I went to REI and had the proper weather gear!!

More tomorrow,
