For anyone interested in seeing longspurs:
A few days ago someone on Texbirds reported seeing a large flock of Horned Larks mixed with Lapland Longspurs near Hagerman NWR. My wife and I drove up this morning and easily found the flock and saw both species. From FM 1417, turn left on Refuge Road (the road to Hagerman). Go a couple of miles and on the left side is a horse farm. The northern end of this property is bounded by Terry Road (the intersection where Hagerman Baptist Church is located). We saw the flock in the fields at this farm. On one pass it was easiest to see from Refuge Road, on another they were closer to Terry Road.
