Fall migration begins in August and is fairly steady through September. By the middle to end of September, the number of species starts to pick up. The summer birds such as Egrets, Flycatchers and Swallows start to fade and are all but gone by the end of the month. Least and Great Crested Flycatchers, BG Gnatcatchers, Baltimore Orioles and a few warblers such as Yellow, Black-and-white, and Wilson's will be seen at the beginning of the month. Mid-month will start producing Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks, Vireos (White-eyed and Blue-headed), House Wrens, RC Kinglets, Gray Catbird, Brown Thrashers, Orange-crowned Warbler, Nashville Warbler, and Clay-colored Sparrows. Since it is migration, anything can show up. Do not count on the following species, but they have been seen during September: Northern Harrier, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Eastern Kingbird, Bell 's Vireo, Black-throated Green Warbler, American Redstart, Ovenbird, Mourning Warbler, Yellow-breasted Chat, and Summer Tanager.
As always, a big thanks to Perry Ping for providing the Arbor Hills forecast.
