Here's my list for geese & ducks in the Dallas/North Central Texas area. I invite comments and additions by others.

Greater White-fronted Goose, Anser albifrons
Snow Goose, Chen caerulescens
Ross’s Goose, Chen rossii
Cackling Goose, Branta hutchinsii
Canada Goose, Branta canadensis


Wood Duck, Aix sponsa
Gadwall, Anas strepera
American Wigeon, Anas americana
Mallard, Anas platyrhynchos
Blue-winged Teal, Anas discors
Cinnamon Teal, Anas cyanoptera
Northern Shoveler, Anas clypeata
White-cheeked Pintail, Anas bahamensis
Northern Pintail, Anas acuta
Green-winged Teal, Anas crecca
Canvasback, Aythya valisineria
Ring-necked Duck, Aythya collaris
Greater Scaup, Aythya marila
Lesser Scaup, Aythya affinis
Bufflehead, Bucephala albeola
Hooded Merganser, Lophodytes cucullatus
Ruddy Duck, Oxyura jamaicensis

occasional/accidental - not in great numbers
Redhead, Aythya americana
Common Goldeneye, Bucephala clangula
Red-breasted Merganser, Mergus serrator
Surf Scoter, Melanitta perspicillata
White-winged Scoter, Melanitta fusca

Here's my two cents worth to Connie's list.

Greater White-fronted Goose - Further south and in migration some at Hagerman
Snow Goose - No one place except maybe Hagerman
Ross’s Goose - Pretty much Hagerman only
Cackling Goose - Pretty much Hagerman only
Canada Goose - No one place except maybe Hagerman


Wood Duck - They are around, just have to look
Gadwall - Every Tom, Dick and Harry pond you can find
American Wigeon - Every Tom, Dick and Harry pond you can find
Mallard - check your back yard
Blue-winged Teal - Seen more in migration, but they are around
Cinnamon Teal - Pretty rare for me, but Village Creek reports them
Northern Shoveler - Every Tom, Dick and Harry pond you can find
White-cheeked Pintail - Lifer for me if this ever showed up
Northern Pintail - Found in most places
Green-winged Teal - Common in reedy areas
Canvasback - Tough find but they are around (just saw at Whiterock & Las Colinas)
Ring-necked Duck - Every Tom, Dick and Harry pond you can find
Greater Scaup - There are here, but good luck picking 'em out (Las Colinas)
Lesser Scaup - Every Tom, Dick and Harry pond you can find
Bufflehead - common in small numbers (Whiterock & Village Creek)
Hooded Merganser - Around especially at Las Colinas
Ruddy Duck - common especially Whiterock

occasional/accidental - not in great numbers
Redhead - I find every fall in the Legacy Bank ponds
Common Goldeneye - always around, but difficult
Red-breasted Merganser
Surf Scoter
White-winged Scoter - rare, but currently up at Hagerman

OOPs. White-cheeked Pintail and Cinnamon Teal were included inadvertently.:o

Questions to anyone:

The geese that can usually be found on golf course, i.e., Prestonwood Country Club along Arapaho Road. I'm guessing that we'd consider those domesticated, right?

Whether domestic or wild, are they Cacklers, Canadas, or some of both?
