Hiya,

I am in Galveston right now and I honestly think there is better birding in Dallas. Migration here is DISMAL. Most old timers are calling this the worst spring migration in decades.

So, if you decided to skip a trip to the UTC this year, be grateful.

Just got back and I wasn't impressed, but I think it may be a better spring than last year when migration seemed to pass us by for the most part.

I think the winds blew them migrants inland and I agree that we probably are getting better birds here!

The winds finally changed last night so today was the first day that was really good...but the winds are supposed to return to tail winds tomorrow so it will be short-lived.

Congrats on your Cape May. Did you get it at Sabine Woods or HI? I did not see either the female that was supposed to have been there yesterday or the male that was supposed to have been there today.

Oh, please, give the birds a break! My day Wed. April 27, at Galveston's LaFitte Woods, with later stops along nearby Sportsman Rd. was wonderful! One of the very best warbler migration days in my 25 plus years of going to the UTC. The winds changed from the south to the north during the night. That's what makes the difference; it's how migration works! You take your chances on how many birds you'll see, on what the weather will do.

There was another great "fall-out" situation on Friday-Saturday, April 15-16; two friends had great numbers and great views.

Enjoy it when it's "hot"; and enjoy the birds, the habitat, the food, whatever, when it's not so"hot"; makes life more pleasant!
