Went to Corpus Christi to the Hazel Bazemore hawk observation site for the Celebration of Flight weekend Sept 24-26. Saw tens of thousands of hawks fly over, mainly broadwinged hawks, but also other buteos, accipiters, kites, vultures, falcons and ospreys. It was a pretty amazing sight to see the broadwings. It reminded me of World War II documentaries, where the whole screen is filled with planes as far as the eye can see. I'd never seen a broadwinged hawk before, and now I've seen more of them than I have grackles. Brian Wheeler gave a couple of wonderfully detailed lectures on hawk identification which were pretty amazingly far over my head. Well, maybe not so amazingly. Anyway it was neat to see the raptors and to see how enthusiastic and accomplished the hawk-watching subset of birders really is. I'd highly recommend this event to anyone interested in birds. Rich
