Hi, I just bought one of those suet cage feeders and some all-year no-melt suet for it, but I'm having some trouble attracting birds to it. I've got plenty of jays, woodpeckers, chickadees and Carolina wrens that I would think would love it, but none have come anywhere near it.

I've tried placing it in two different locations, for several days in each location. The first I tried was about 15 feet up my giant pecan tree in my backyard, right on the trunk - no luck. Next I hung it on a branch near this shrub that the wrens seem to love - also no luck.

I also have a tube feeder for safflower and a peanut feeder, and the birds love those. Maybe I should try hanging the suet on a high branch in my pecan tree (near my peanut feeder)?

Any other ideas?

Wait until it gets a bit colder. After all -- how much fat do you want to eat in this kind of weather? Fat is a preferred cold weather food. (Which is to say -- just because it won't melt in hot weather doesn't mean anyone wants to eat it in hot weather.)
