I recently took a trip to Moscow, Idaho. It's about an hour and a half southeast of Spokane Washington. I was there on business and only had an extra day play around, so I contacted the local Audubon http://www.palouseaudubon.org/ and spoke with president Terry Gray. He agreed to take my brother and I on a whirlwind tour of the area. Here's a list of the highlights of the trip, life birds for me marked with an *.
*tundra swan
n. pintail
*canvasback
common goldeneye
*barrow's goldeneye
*common merganser
wood duck
*cackling goose
canada goose
bufflehead
*gray crowned rosy-finch
*canyon wren
*rock wren
western bluebird
mountain bluebird
varied thrush
*pine siskin
* common redpoll
lesser goldfinch
*bohemian waxwing
*n shrike
bb magpie
common raven
tree swallow
violet-green swallow
spotted towhee
oregon junco
*blackbacked woodpecker
*peregrine falcon (pair)
california quail
*gray partridge
A couple of these birds were seen on other mornings, but 11 of the 15 life birds were found on one day! We owe many thanks to Mr Gray.
