The North Texas Municipal Water district wants to put a 3,500 foot long, 42 inch diameter sewage line through the sanctuary prairie land and underneath the wetlands. Please click here to read more about it and sign the petition:

Hi,
While I agree that this could be a travesty and something that we should all oppose, I have never known an online petition to do any good. We need names and addresses of people in authority to flood with good old fashioned snail-mail and phone calls.

That's great, but to whom do we write letters...the City of McKinney? the City of McKinney's mayor? City Manager? City Council members?

I'm not sure what good it will do to write the Cornell Lab or its supporters unless the Heard is affliated with the CLO and could expect action by the CLO.
According to the Heard's website, the North Texas Municipal Water district is suing the Heard for eminent domain. I would expect that the Heard's lawyer would introduce the online petition results during the course of this litigation -- it won't just languish on the website, so it's worth signing.
One could also express one's dismay at the proposal to violate the sanctuary lands by writing the North Texas Municipal Water District directly, at this address provided on its website, which would direct the protest to the authors of the problem:
Jim Parks, Executive Director
North Texas Municipal Water District
Administrative Offices
505 East Brown St.
PO Box 2408
Wylie, Texas 75098
http://www.ntmwd.com/contacts.html
And they've provided a set of convenient links to state agencies, some of which we might also flood with protests.

I saw on the news a few days ago that the Heard lost the eminent domain fight. They haven't been promised as much for their land as they believe it's worth, so that part of the battle continues, but they did at least get the N. T. M. Water District to agree to route the pipe around the outside margin of the Heard property rather than right through the middle of it.
