This is an appeal to all birders in the Sunnyvale / Heath / Lake Ray Hubbard / eastern Dallas County / western Kaufman County / western Rockwall County area to be on the lookout for the African White-backed Vulture that escaped from the Dallas Zoo on January 28. The Zoo has received a report from that area that deserves followup.

If you see this bird, please call the Zoo asap at 214-670-6826. (If you're going out that way, please write the phone number and take it with you!)

Connie,

Is this the vulture? I have been wondering if this is the one since I heard of the escape. I took this some two years ago.

No, Maestro, that vulture has white wings -- the one that escaped has a white back. Here's what it looks like again:

My husband and I had reason to drive to Mineola on Saturday afternoon, actually going through Sunnyvale, but we saw only Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks.
